Okay treatment of the subject---but not a complete reference on it....

Its okay, but chiefly devoted to schematics. A little Mcguiverish info on: home, low tech and expedient gunsmithing would have been nice. If you are interested in the subject, dont count on this book singularly to give you the information you need. Otherwise, I should say that the schematics look good and make sense.

Good Drawings, Complex Design

This book contains the best drawings I've seen in a book of this type. The problem with the book is the design does not give up any complexity in an effort to tailor towards home manufacture. In other words, it might as well be a set of nice drawings for some other, more proven design such as a Uzi. OK, maybe it is somewhat easier to make than a Uzi, but it does have a large number of parts to make and they don't look outstandingly simple individually. It is probably not something you can make without a lot of skill and some machine tools. I guess it is more a book for a well-organized resistance movement than an individual working in his own basement, so the cover's words "do-it-yourself" and "homemade" are basically going to be lies for most folks. Still, it is not a bad book to have for study. Oh, the book is all metric, by the way. Conversion per se is simple enough, but if it calls for metric tubing for the starting material and only inch tubing is available you need to have an extra helping of good judgement to make all other the changes necessary.

A refreshing look at the real SS and its outlook

What is truly refreshing about this particular work is the author's sincere attempt to understand the thinking and ideas of National Socialism as reflected in its 'vanguard' so to speak in the form of the Schuetzstaffel. He managed to locate and study most of the published issues of 'Das Schwarzes Korps', the official journal of the SS, and to glean from its articles, essays, and journalistic trends, the world-view and direction of its editors and writers.

What does clearly emerge from this study is the fact of the revolutionary idealism of men like d'Alquen and other writers and editors, as well as those leading SS men such as Himmler, Heydrich, Johst, et al, who contributed to the journal or were greatly influenced by it. National Socialism remains largely misunderstood in the West, and one has to wonder if the war itself would even have occurred had a clearer perspective been prevalent in the late 1930s.

It would be nice to study this publication directly, but so far as is known there are only rare materials like this book, or 'facsimile reproductions' of some of its articles and editorial cartoons. Surely at some point, the University of Tuebingen would digitize and/or re-publish the entire series - or most thereof that remains extant - of this journal, for the use of other historians and all others with a strong interest in this area. The same useful goal would apply to seminal NS publications such as 'Signal', 'Das Reich', and others.

I strongly recommend this book, along with others such as 'Nazi Culture' by Mosse, to help gain in reaching an understanding of the nature and ideals of National Socialism.

The book is OK--not great

The book is OK. The pictures are not fantastic. Most of the pictures are low power and difficult to elucidate. Very few arrows are used throughout. Simple format for each entry. Extremely thin book with minimal pictures for this price.

This logical successor to Cosmos (1980) offers the characteristic Sagan blueprint for humankind's long-term vitality. In 1990, while speeding out of the solar system, the Voyager 1 spacecraft snapped photographs of the planets. From a distance of 3.7 billion miles, the Earth appears as a ``pale blue dot''--a metaphor Sagan (Astronomy and Space Sciences/Cornell Univ.) employs to underscore the utter insignificance of our home world in relation to the great expanse of space. In his usual eloquent and impassioned language, he builds a cogent argument that our species must venture into this vast realm and establish a space-faring civilization. Fully acknowledging the exorbitant costs that are involved in manned spaceflight while we concurrently face pressing social, economic, and environmental problems at home, Sagan asserts that our very survival depends on colonizing outer space. Astronomers have already identified dozens of potential Armageddons in the form of asteroids that will someday smash into Earth. Undoubtedly, many more remain undetected. The only way to avert inevitable catastrophe, Sagan argues, is for nations to join together and establish a permanent human presence in space. Ultimately, he predicts, humans will conquer space because, like the planets that roam the sky (``planet'' means ``wanderer'' in Greek), we too are wanderers. Deep within us lies a spark that compels us to explore, and space provides the new frontier. The exploration of space will inspire the world's young people and unify quarreling nations. Inspiring and Exciting Perspective on Science, Technology, and the Human Race

As a young person, to see how far we have come in the short�time since Carl wrote this book is nothing short of awe inspiring. From the continuing collaboration between the US and Russia on the International Space Station (even with high political tensions on Earth), to detailed plans by both NASA and and private industry to send humans to Mars by the 2030's, to the discovery of thousands of exoplanets orbiting distant stars. One of which is an earth-like planet orbiting the closet star to our Sun and has the correct temperature for liquid water to form. With proposals from top scientists to send small ships to explore this system within our lifetime, this is absolutely a fascinating and exciting time to live!

Overall, this book provided a unique insight into one of the great minds of the twentieth century and his perspective on science, technology, and the human race. I truly believe this is a must read and will dramatically shift your view of humanities place on Earth and in the Universe.

One of my favorite books!

I am an avid reader and I was fascinated by Carl Sagan’s books and his TV series. I have a 1995 special edition unknown binding with full color photos and illustrations. I love this book and use it as a reference. I am very careful with the book as it is one of my favorites and I treasure owning it.

It is a wonderful book about mankind’s future in space travel and the wonders of the universe. I have a large collection of books and my grandsons often come over and borrow them. Some I have duplicate copies of and I freely share them with my family. This is one of those books that will be passed along to my grandsons and great grandsons.

Sagan had an open and inquisitive mind and he always wanted to imagine and study and learn. This is the type of book that inspired future scientist and generations to come to excel and explore our universe. It is worth passing onto the next generation. This book is one of my favorites.

Still relevant after all these years

Now, perhaps more so than ever before, it is vital to step outside ourselves as a species and reflect on how the entire history of humanity is no greater than a mote of dust on a sunbeam. Carl Sagan takes us uniquely and methodically toward that special perspective with this fantastic book. Despite some aspects of the book being outdated, the core essence of Sagan's narrative is riveting in its clarity when answering the big questions that each of us has in pondering our place in the universe. I highly recommend this book to anyone who lies awake at night thinking about such things.

Fierce - A Book That Empowers Girls and Women

Author - Leah Oviedo, has done a great service to women by writing this book. It's about connecting to your true female power, eg - expanding your mind, looking after your body and sexual self, having awareness and educating yourself on issues that primarily effect - the female. In today's society, 'girl power' is often an adage linked with the shallow - eg - materialism, image and sexualization. Leah's book encourages girls to dig deeper, to connect with their true source of power - their inner selves. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on gender bias and learnt about some things I wasn't aware of. I highly recommend this book, it is both vital and fierce.

A guide that will get you moving into a better life!

What I love most about this book is that straight off the bat it lays out the foundation and encourages readers to "...be fierce and fight for a world where equality, truth and knowledge are our most cherished qualities." This idea flows into not one of admonishment (we know about negative self-talk, yes?) but one of focusing on precise questions we can ask ourselves in order to recognize that, yes, even to ourselves, we are truly love-able: we can embrace our bodies; we can enhance our minds (often by returning to what we enjoyed as a child and improving on that); we can explore the deeper aspects of our personalities and see that it is good!

This book helps the reader to think critically. The author provides helpful resources if we need to get out of a horrible situation in order to move forward. Aside from step-by-step help and outside resources, Oviedo references such gurus as Ghandi, includes a bill of rights, and offers the challenge, "...to survive or thrive. The choice is up to you."

More than just a souvenir

I went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in February 2016, and was lucky enough to have Peter Sabella as tour guide. I expected expertise on the history, geography, archaeology and Biblical background to the holy sites, but was amazed and delighted at Peter's own deep faith and spiritual contribution to our group's reflections. Our tour was necessarily taken at a fairly brisk pace, so this book affords a chance to revisit and recollect upon the experience in tranquillity. It is a wonderful resource for anyone preparing to make a pilgrimage and, for those who know they will not be able to make the journey in person, it provides a real alternative which can be revisited and pondered over again and again.

I went to the Holy Land in February and whilst on the Pilgrimage, had the occasion to acquire Mr. Sabella's book, "Closed for Renovation".
I am savouring the experience of learning about my own personal road to Emmaus, by virtue of the fact that Mr. Sabella's book is inspiring enough to wish to embark on the same journey. The book is thought provoking, induces one to deep thought and gives one an insight into Jesus's life. I am only halfway through the book .. I am savouring every page and taking my time. I put it aside after a further chapter and ponder about what I have read. I came back from the Holy Land a new person and transformed. The book enables me to cast my mind back to what I experienced and has whetted my desire to go on learning as much as I can. The book is a must! But even for someone who has not been to the Holy Land, nor will have a chance to go to there, acquiring this book is excellent "food for thought". I shall most certainly recommend it to friends. Through the book I was able to experience once again the deep spiritual experiences of walking on the same path that Jesus had walked. Peter is thoughtful and reflective and brings the Bible to life through his words.

About the Author
After attending Harvard University and serving as an officer in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, Dr. Pecci earned a degree of Medical Doctor, with distinction, from Tufts University School of Medicine. He had his residency in Psychiatry at the Langley-Porter Neuropsychiatric Institute in San Francisco and a residency in Child Psychiatry at Mt. Zion Hospital in San Francisco. He has been a practicing psychiatrist for over 40 years. He was the founder and President of Rosebridge Graduate School of Integrative Psychology, a fellow in Community Psychiatry at the University of California School of Medicine and a lecturer at John F. Kennedy University. As a popular speaker during the 70 s and 80 s at scientific and metaphysical conferences he made many acquaintances with prominent people in diverse fields of study such as Dr. William Tiller, then chairman of the Department of Material Sciences at Stanford University, holistic medical author, Dr. Norman Shealy, and Hugh Lynn Cayce, son of Edgar Cayce. During his professional career he served as medical director of the George Miller Jr. Centers for Multi-handicapped Children and Adults in Contra Costa County, California. He also served as chief psychiatrist at the California Youth Authority in northern California. He is the founder of the PSI (Psycho-Spiritual Integration) Process and the author of numerous books, including, Guidance from Within and Rise Above It. Dr. Pecci s book, Chess: A Psychiatrist Matches Wits with Fritz with a foreword by Garry Kasparov, changed the strategy and tactics of chess in a previously unseen way, having a significant influence in the way chess computer programs are now written. He collaborated with Stanford professor Dr. William Tiller and wrote a foreword for his book, Science and Human Transformation, in which he describes how his interest in sacred geometry coincided with the idea of subliminal energies from other dimensionalities interwoven into a flowing pattern. Dr. Pecci became interested in and began his own research on the Great Pyramid in the early 1990 s. This research has been a continuing passion for him for the past twenty years, and during this period he has made numerous original observations and correlations that are being presented here, in this book, for the first time..

The Great Pyramid's geometry is well explained, so even if one is not familiar with geometry, he'll learn from reading. The new interpretation of Hermes Trismegistus' allusive statements become the sensible conclusion after the explanations of the Great Pyramid's geometry; all life and matter bearing the geometric inner relations of the Pyramid provide the reason for the Great Pyramid's existence. Thoroughly worth reading

At last we have a thorough going critique of the subjectivist position. This book is equally suited to those approaching the subject from the philosophical viewpoint and those who are active workers in the fields of visual representation.

Not very helpful

I looked forward to reading this book. I was encouraged by the reviews and by the table of contents. But after spending the past several days with it, I have to say that I have gotten very little out of it at all. Perhaps it is because I do not have a background in philosophy and have not got a lot of patience for it. My background is in lit theory and art history. If you are an artist, I do not think you will find much that is helpful in this book. It's not that I expected anything practical. I expected a theorizing of the problems of depiction in art, including color and form. Instead, I found what seems to me like a lot of quibbling over, for instance, whether something looks like or represents something else. Yes, there is a difference. Does it actually matter? Maybe to philosophers it does. But to artists? I do not think so.
