About the Author
ASA Test Prep Board includes editors Jackie Spanitz, Charles L. Robertson, Cliff Seretan, and Paul Hamilton. This was my only study material, and I passed with 85% =D

I bought this book exactly a month ago to study for the Part 107 Test. This was my only study material along with few youtube videos to explain/practice more on METAR, airspace also understanding the markings on the Sectional Charts. This book can be very dry and wording can be slightly confusing. Maybe it's to prep you for the test questions. The book includes 5 prep tests online which I did all of them with a passing grade. So after 3 weeks of studying, I took the test today and passed with an 85% score. The questions were worded differently from the book and the prep tests. So ensure you have the most current study guide. I believe the 2018 edition just came out as I am writing this.

This is not a very visual book and was printed black and white straightly to be cost effective, which I think was the downfall of it. There is one section that covers airport signs and airport markings. I end up looking for the exact images online and "color" it in my study guide. Not a good move for sure.

Another big chunk of information that I needed help was reading the Sectional Chart, which was essential to the test. The Legend for the chart is printed in the book and you can always refer to it, but it gives out very little info if you have no clue what they mean. I did find a website that pretty much covered all the markings in the Sectional Chart with layman's term and understanding.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to individuals that are disciplined and self-motivated. It requires you to set aside time to concentrate, read and digest all that information. To be honest - my back up plan was if I fail the test on my first try, I was going to enroll myself in one of the online courses. Looks like I will be all set until 2019! Good luck!!!

Needed tool to pass the sUAS test

This book helped me pass my sUAS test. While you do need more than just this book to pass, it helps make sense of the "study guide" the FAA provides. I used this book, their app (Definitely suggest spending the $5 on it) and the FAA guide and passed with flying colors. I liked it gave you practice test questions along with why the answer was correct.

Enabled me to pass the test with little other resources. However there are more questions relating to airports and airspace on the test than what is focused upon in the book. I recommend studying some extra material on those areas if you want to ensure passing the test on your first try.

Thich Nhat Hanh's introduction begins with the Turning the Dharma Wheel Sutra, the classic tale of Buddha's announcement in the Deer Park of his awakening. My approach to this book is different than the other reviewers. I am not a man of faith. I do not believe in the existence of God and I believe the whole issue is unimportant. More important than the existence of God (which is a question neither side can settle) is the question of how to live our lives now. I came to this book as I always come to religious writings and practices; will this help me to understand others or myself better? Will this teach me to be more loving, to live more mindfully, with more compassion?
From this point of view, this is a wonderful book. Not because it answers all questions (or any questions for that matter). If anything it creates more ambiguities, it raises more challenges. That is a good thing. Many of the other reviewers seem to react to Thich Nhat Hahn based on whether or not his is the True Buddhism or just one man's opinion. Fair enough. But unless you are so fortunate as to have some sort of satori or God decides to drop in for a chat what else do you ever have but one person's opinion? It seems to me that what we all do is find something that seems to make sense to you, a practice that carries you along your path and you practice. Thich Nhat Hahn will help most readers to do this. This is a man of extraordinary faith who is apparently equally diligent in trying to live his faith. I do not know about the other readers but this man is a wonderful and unnerving challenge to me in my ideas on how to live my life.
Throughout the book the author suggests very simple practices to improve mindfulness and diligence. He calls us back to the breath always. In my experience, whether doing yoga, tai chi, chi-kung, kung fu, meditation or just plain living this is always the beginnings of real practice.
The presentation of Buddhists dogma that the other reviewers find so wonderful or controversial is, I believe, very well done and is as clear as could be hoped. It is also very arcane. I was not aware that there were Twelve Levels of Independent Co-Arising, Seven Factors of Awakening, Six Paramitas, Five Powers, Four Immeasurable Minds, Three Bodies of Buddha, Two Truths and, yes, a Partridge in a Pear Tree. Sorry, I could not help myself. My point is that a lot of this part of the book is probably most useful after having been read, lived and read again. For someone looking for a true introduction, this part of the book will seem a little much. Parts of it seem a little PC as well such as the occasional emphasis on sex abuse. I cannot imagine that was a burning issue back in the days of the Buddha. This is not a problem for me- it just shows that the author's religion is a living one.
Wonderfully though, what also comes through, is the author's spirit- that of a gentle, compassionate and strong person. I have not read any of his other books. After this I will read more. I have already found some of the practices helpful and will continue to try to integrate them into my life. Give this book a chance. I do not think it will answer all of your questions. How nice would that be if we could get that from a book? It will give you a deeper understanding of Buddhist's beliefs and practices. Some of the practices suggested may help you to live your life. What more could you hope for?

Transforming our Suffering

Of all the books I have read and enjoyed by Thich Nhat Hanh, this is the one of the most comprehensive, inspiring and practical. His introduction to the Four Noble Truths is simply written, easy to understand, and yet lacks not one bit in depth. Like all his books, this one helps us to integrate Buddhist ideas into our everyday life without becoming too encumbered with terminology. Although Thich Nhat Hanh does tend to repeat himself in subtle ways, within this book and across his other books, The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching seems to integrate many of his ideas into one very coherent and practical treatise on the nature suffering as one of the most basic human conditions we spend our lives trying to accept, or possibly escape.
He makes the Buddhist concepts of attachment to objects and people very clear in relationship to human suffering and then highlights the path of well-being, peace and liberation from it.
If I was stuck on an island and could bring a few books, this would be one at the top of the list. It's a reminder that much our our suffering is self created and an illusion. In the same way we imprison ourselves mentally, is the way we begin to liberate ourselves. Freedom and liberation come from within and are possible even under the most extreme, excruciating and trying conditions.
I highly recommend this book, and especially to those who are having difficulty dealing with the loss of a loved one (or loss in general) and those who are imprisoned mentally (with fear), or even physically incarcerated.

The book of choice for an organized intro to buddhism

This book is probably the single best book for those interested in learning the fundamentals of buddhism, as well as for those looking for a guidebook to refine and contemplate their buddhist views. Thich Nhat Hanh is living testimony that Buddhist practice can transform a life of suffering and despair into one of peace and joy. His books were the start of my path and this book is almost like a handbook to the four noble truths and the eightfold path, as well as other fundamental thoughts of buddhists. The language does get somewhat abstract and spiritual and may require some re-reading by some, especially those with no previous exposure to buddhism. Otherwise, the best book covering fundamental buddhism I've ever read.

Bad presentation, good information, and more bad presentation.

Basically, the information this book contains is rendered inaccessible by the poor presentation.

Remember writing that paper where you needed more length, so you went back and reworded everything to be expressed in a more complicated way? That's this textbook. Sentences are needlessly long, making content more difficult to absorb. Word choices are fluttery and fanciful when they need to be brick-solid. The prose squanders my time and my attention.

Composition is bad. This book consistently names something I've never heard of, talks for a few paragraphs about it as though I know what it is, leads me to believe I've missed something and maybe I should go back and find it, and then finally defines the thing. Additionally, time after time something is brought up and then dismissed as being "beyond the scope of this text" or contained in proper detail in some other, future chapter (your princess is in another castle...).

Images are never anywhere near the point in the text that references them! Reading about figure X-X? Well, figure X-Y is directly adjacent to what you're reading, and X-X is two pages back. For an e-book this is impossible to deal with, and even for a physical copy this would be ridiculous.

And the jokes? Yes, it's got jokes. They aren't good. They aren't funny. They are meant to be a way of keeping the reader engaged, but they fall flat and they take up space I had hoped would contain useful information.

This textbook is awful. It contains mountains of good information, but the writing is so bad as to render the content inaccessible.

Dry and Very Technical

I bought this book for a course I was taking on DBMSs, and I found it to be extremely dry and difficult to read in terms of staying captivated - even for a textbook. I understand database management may not be the "coolest" thing to read about, but a good textbook will keep the reader engaged while teaching them something of value. However, the book did offer good knowledge about the basics of what a database is, its role in a business, how to cultivate one, and how to maintain one.

The only thing that threw me off was that the product picture said "International Edition," but nowhere in the product description did it suggest that it would be the international edition, so I made the assumption that the product photo was off. I ended up receiving an international edition, which I wasn't totally expecting just because the post didn't exclusively state that, and in my experience the seller states that up front. In terms of content, it wasn't vastly different, it would just have been nice to know beforehand since international editions are significantly cheaper than US editions and if I had known that I would have bought my international edition somewhere else that offered cheaper pricing.

If this book is necessary for a class (as was the case for me) then I feel for you. There are a lot of concepts discussed and while some of them can be a little confusing, it seems like the author goes to great lengths to explain them in a way that makes everything as complicated as possible. I thought the idea of a textbook was to clearly impart information and ideas. This book does the exact opposite. The author is clearly more interested in 'sounding smart' than explaining thing in a helpful way.

About the Author
John J. Wild is Professor of Business and Vilas Research Scholar at The University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he also received his Ph.D. He has received numerous teaching awards at Wisconsin as well as from Michigan State University. You can do better

Use of outmoded T accounts well into the book, where the student should already be using worksheets and ledgers for everything - it's like going back to square one every 2nd chapter. Useless sidebar excursions like in Chap. 3, Asset, Liability & Owner's Equity Accounts: "WWW Inquiry: Find the URL address for Coca Cola. What is the gross profit on its income statement last available year?"

As if this excursion had anything to do with the chapter's topic?!!

Pointless Case Studies at the end of each chapter, that lead one to useless "Critical Thinking" exercises, asking questions like, "Why should so-and-so use accepted accounting practice to record his business income", or "How would you describe the effect an incorrect entry has on the accounts? Hint: Think about the account balances and what they mean to the operation of the business."

OMG - you've got to be kidding!!

The book contains several typos in the exercises and problems that will throw you off if you don't catch them. Overall, the book seems to be designed to throw a student off-track more than offer straight-line guidance. The problems feature tricky phrasing designed to make you think twice, but end up being a hindrance.

Don't waste your time with this one.

the book is good so far, easy to follow yet im only about 3 chapters into it. it is pretty straight forward and if you were to not take a class and tried to learn the info by using this book alone, it would probably do the trick.

site doesn't clarify if connect is included.

Its a good and straightforward book. Too bad connect accounting is not included and is a separate purchase. I use connect more than I do the book itself since it has ebook. The site did not clarify, only that access isn't guaranteed with rentals so I bought the book new. And found out connect is separate anyway! Returned it.
